Bachelorette Weekend!

Hey hey! I wanted to tell y'all all about our Bachelorette weekend! You may remember that Sandra and I are engaged (woohoo!), and as part of the lead-up to the wedding, our best men An and Surya kindly agreed to organise a bachelorette weekend for us. We had a few hard-and-fast requirements (no strippers, no wang-straws, no bride-to-be sashes), and a few requests (we asked them to make all the decisions and organise logistics, and we didn't want to drive or cook - Sandra and I tend to be the organisers / drivers in our group of friends and we wanted a bit of a change). Basically, we just wanted a nice relaxed weekend away with our closest friends to chill out before the wedding preparations began in earnest. And the boys delivered!

They surprised us with a fabulous weekend in Mansfield, which they specifically chose because we'd never been before. We relaxed, ate, drank wine, visited the town, and even went to the snow! We went in a group of eight people, and even though the boys organised it, everyone (apart from the brides) contributed to the snacks, wines, breakfasts, and cooking. It was so wonderful, and such a fun weekend!

This will be a picture-heavy post, enjoy!

There were kangaroos on the property! We even saw a few wombats at dusk. Wombats!

It was a group effort to cook breakfasts on both mornings - loads of bacon, eggs, haloumi, strong coffee, juice, fruits and general deliciousness.

You could tell that our two organisers were Indonesian / Singaporean-Malaysian - MILO!

We stopped in town the first morning for more coffees and juices at Mansfield Coffee Merchants (23 Highett St, Mansfield VIC 3722), and a walk around Mansfield Farmers Market. The market was quite small but had lots of good stalls.

Later that afternoon we visited Delatite Winery (cnr Pollards and Stoney's Rd, Mansfield, Vic, 3722) for a tasting. The staff there (Paul in particular!) were super friendly, patiently navigating our big group who had loads of questions. We ended up buying a couple of cases of wine between us - the 2015 Chardonnay, and the 2013 Late Harvest Riesling, in particular, were stand-outs.

Then it was back to the cabin for relaxation and snack times!

Dinner that night was at Bos Taurus Steakhouse (13-15 High St, Mansfield VIC 3722), for an epic meat feast. I had a 21 day dry-aged 500gm beef long rib, which was melt-off-the-bone tender and incredibly flavourful.

And you know how Bachelorettes (or Hen's Parties, Bucks Nights, whatever), are meant to be drunken, debauched, out-of-control parties? Well, we certainly lived up to that reputation. After dinner, we came home, put the fire on in the cabin, settled into the comfy couches, drank a bit more wine and eventually all fell asleep watching a re-run of Dante's Peak. No regrets.

Classic.

The next morning we woke up to gorgeous misty views across the valley.

We packed up and then went to the snow for the day! I hadn't been to the snow since I was a kid, and I'm way too uncoordinated to participate in any kind of snow-based physical activity (I'm more about the "après" than the "ski"), but it was still so much fun! There was tobogganing (I just watched), mulled wine, mountains of french fries, and stunning views.

Love that thick blanket of snow

I'm actually really scared of heights, but I ended up going on the chairlift (I can't remember the name, but it's the only one that's just for sightseeing, not skiers), and I'm so happy that I did! The views were gorgeous and being on top of the mountain was breathtaking! Feel the fear and do it anyway.

Thanks so much to An and Surya for organising an amazing weekend! And to the whole group for joining in the fun (shouting us the weekend, cooking brekky, bringing seriously good snacks and wine) and just generally being fantastic friends and bringing joy into our lives.

Next step: wedding!
